That's even more expensive when it goes wrong. ...and if it's something like a 2003 VW, cost of repairing or replacing automatic transmission will likely exceed value of car.

I know that servicing and fixing an automatic transmission is not something that the average home DIY "mechanic" can really do.

AT for grandma, true car need only MT with FR or 4WD. True german cars came with I6 or V12 on MT, FR!
