Accessories 256gb micro sd for $30?? This can't be real..

Firstly, the fact that that link is blocked by the site filter is a bad sign!

Secondly, anyone can write a description. There are a lot of "fake" sd cards out there. How the con works is that someone gets hold of a batch of old, small capacity cards and hacks them so that they report their capacity as being much larger. You buy it, put it in the phone, and it tells you you have a big card. Then when you try to store more data than its real capacity you overwrite the earlier data. You lose your data, and you've lost your money too.

Bottom line: if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

Thank you for the info. I decided on buying the 128gb for $14 instead, because I know that size is for sure supported by volt. Never even seen 256gb before this. I figured if it's a scam, I'm only out $14, and if it's legit, it's gonna take me the rest of the new year to fill it with music. When I get it in 15-26 days, I will be sure to make a back up of all my data, transfer it to a computer and then try to stuff it full and see if what you just described happens

Edit:

Wow that is weird.. I thought it was just blocking the visual letters, but no, the link itself won't work for me, and I just ordered through the site. It's **** dot com. It's *****, the new Chinese version of eBay that I've been hearing so much about in the tech community. Cnet claimed it might blow eBay out of the water, and if this deal is legit it will. I will post the results when I get the card, in any case

128GB SD from a vendor on *****, yeh 99% sure that's going to be $14 bucks down the drain. Don't just put it in your phone and expect to go storing irreplaceable photos and videos. Test it first.

FYI we can't even buy genuine 128GB SDs for that price here in China, also the ****** URL is blocked by AF, because of fakes and spammers.

Btw any suggestions on how to test it, other than just trying to fill it? Are there any apps that can scan an sd card and tell you the specifications?

H2testw will test it thoroughly, that's for PC, but I'm sure there's some Android apps that will do the same as well on Play.

You don't have to fill it completely, just by putting a few GB of songs or videos on there, and if they don't play back, go missing or corrupted, then you'll know.

Yup, I'm in China, and know this stuff only too well.

Hmm now I'm not as excited lol... oh well, I can only wait and see. I've been pretty ridiculous lucky lately. Found a 45" flat screen hdtv on the sidewalk about five months ago, still works perfectly

Just curious, are there a lot of English speakers in china??

Could be because former owners wanted a bigger TV or it didn't do Netflix or something, and it was easier just to dump the old one than trying to flog for a few bucks to Cash Converters or something. I've found many a useful and good things apparently abandoned on streets over the years.

The number is increasing, all students must learn English as part of their compulsory education. And many do see English as a way into better employment. If doing anything with foreign business in China, you need English. I'm British myself, a teacher. BTW only half the population of China actually speaks Mandarin as a first language. Back in the 50s and 60s students used to learn Russian as a second language, not English, because of China's friendship with the Soviet Union.

Check out "SD Insight"

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.humanlogic.sdi

Use that to verify what common sense ought to have told you in the first place.

And it's not weird at all that AF blocks rip off sites.

And I've removed all references to it in plain text.

If we didn't want the site advertised to protect people, then why go and let others know anyway?

Biggest scam in the cell phone industry, most talked about and complained about, and not a week goes by without the allure of something for nothing working.

As PT Barnum would say - Thread closed.
