I have an older Android S. It has been replaced by Verizon while under contract once because of issues. My contract has expired & I have lost use of my volume. The phone will vibrate but has no ringtone. The speaker button also does not work when making or receiving calls. I do not want to upgrade because I will lose my unlimited package. Is it possible for me to buy a replacement phone & then activate it without involving Verizon?

Yes, you can buy another phone (as long as it will work on the VZ network) and have it switched over.

Just beware, if you "buy up" to a better phone (i.e. a more current model) they may not let you keep the unlimited plan. You'll be pigeon holed into keeping an older phone that way. Be sure to pay attention to that when you call them to switch it over.
