3 questions on the $30 t-mobile plan

magnus202

Newbie
Hello,
I have 3 questions on the $30 t-mobile plan.
If someone could help me out.

1)
I had a tracfone, Where you had to buy airtime.

With the $30 t-mobile plan, do you have to buy monthy air time?
Do you give your credit card, and it charges every month?

2)
Since this page doesn't have an order button, do you need to get this in the store?
Prepaid Cell Phone Plans, No Credit Check | Monthly 4G | T-Mobile

3)
With the deal you get the first 5 GB at up to 4G speeds

I am guessing the phone has to specify 4G Network like this has

To get the 4G

This phone will only get 3G speeds?

Is 4G really only for streaming video?

I appreciate any help

To answer your questions:

1) You have to add $30 to your account every month. You can do that by buying a T-Mobile prepaid card, paying in a T-Mobile store, paying online, or paying from your phone. You can set up auto payments online as well. It doesn't matter which way you do it, though there are people who like to order the prepaid cards online to save on sales tax and to find a cheaper price (such as ordering cards from eBay).

2) You need to order/buy a T-Mobile SIM card or prepaid phone kit, and then when you activate the SIM card you can choose the $30 plan. The $30 plan is only available online or from Walmart (though you typically have to have bought the phone from Walmart to get them to do it); you technically can't get this plan from a T-Mobile store (though some people have gotten a store to do it). If you have problems getting the SIM activated online, you can call and have them help you by calling the activation phone number -- just make sure they know you want the $30 "Walmart" plan, as there is a different $30 monthly plan that has no data.

3) I'm not quite sure what you mean by "specify 4G network"? With the T-Mobile SIM, it will automatically connect to the fastest speed the phone can handle. So the Galaxy S4 will get LTE if it is available in that area. If you are in an area without LTE, then it will connect at the fastest 2G/3G speed, including HSPA+42 (which T-Mobile also calls 4G) if it is available in that area.

Most phones will allow you to turn off the LTE antenna, or even to only operate at 2G. And, no, 4G is not only for streaming video. It does stream video quite well, but it also makes your Internet browser load pages quickly, it allows you to stream music without slowing down apps that use the Internet or your browser, etc.

As for the Wildfire, yes, it will likely get only 3G speeds (you might be able to get speeds up to about 4 Mbps).

Once you have used 5GB of data, it will throttle your speed down to roughly 2G speeds, regardless of what speeds are available in your area.

Hope this helps and is what you were wanting to know.

@mogelijk please note if u add 20$ you'll have the unlimited truly data

I'm not sure what you are referring to. If you add $20, you are on the unlimited talk but it lowers data to 500 MB of up to 4G speeds; but both the $30 and the $50 have unlimited data (just lowered to 2G speeds after the initial 5 GB for the $30 plan or 500 MB for the $50 plan.

If you pay $70 ($40 more) then you have the truly unlimited data, which does not throttle your speeds.
