3 Questions regarding the Droid Pro

LeoBloom

Hello,

so I used a Droid pro in my verizon store today and I fell in love with it. I want to make sure of a few things before I buy it.

1. I see that it has an option to make "social applications" sync over wi-fi only to avoid superfluous 3g data usage. I was wondering how the phone determined "social applications" and whether it was somehow possible to quality an app as a social application via their properties. (I've never used android before so I don't know what is possible).

2. I have heard that it is possible to use Google voice to make calls from an android phone straight from the contacts, but I am not sure if this will apply to the Droid pro. I would like to have this feature because I plan to not have a text message plan and instead use the google voice text messaging. Since people will message me to my gvoice number, I'd like them to see my gvoice number when I call.

3. Battery life? I've seen some complaints about it.

Thank you!

Yeah, buy an extended battery.

when you click on your contacts and click call, a window will pop up asking you if you want to use google voice or just regular voice. You can change this in the google voice options so you can always use google voice when making calls

Thanks, how is the google voice text messaging option? Is the app convenient enough to replace text messaging with a text plan? I know it will use data instead.

Hell yeah, its awesome. I'm actually in the process of returning my iPhone 4 and going back to the Droid Pro. Google Voice works flawlessly on the Droid Pro. The only thing you cant do through Google Voice is pictures, but you'd probably end up emailing them anyways.

I was actually saving a good 20 bucks a month with google voice since I was only paying 5 bucks for 250 text messages. I'd do the majority of my text messaging through google voice.

I was using google voice for the iPhone and its just plain horrible, not as smooth as it is for Android.

Also, the extended battery does wonders for this phone, also, there shouldn't be a problem using normal size cases with the extended battery since it doesn't add that much more bulk to the phone.

Haha, thanks a bunch for your input. I am really happy to hear. Essentially, I wanted to replace my phone number with my GV phone number and that outgoing calls used the GV number, and so that all text messages would be made to the GV number so I can escape paying anything for texting since I pay so much for internet. Gosh, now I can't wait!

mo3iusone, do you know exactly how much data google voice uses on your phone per month e.g. does android tell you how much data you use per application?

I wouldn't know to tell you the truth. The 1 month I had the Droid Pro I did about 2.5 gigs of data but I'm a pretty heavy user, I do a lot of web browsing, pandora, etc. etc.

Verizon has an app on the Droid Pro that will keep tabs on the amount of data.

Hmm, well, I'll have to see exactly how much data I use. I figured I don't have a need for unlimited data since I prolly wouldn't stream music to save battery life. But I don't want to feel restricted using Google voice for texting and calling.

Thanks for your help
