3g or 4g?

I have been waiting to upgrade phones for some time now. I live in Northern Wisconsin in a city of around 35,000 people. I have narrowed my phone selection down to the motorola droid x 2 or the htc thunderbolt. The thunderbolt has 4g LTE but a single core processor and battery issues, while the Motorola Droid x 2 has a dual core processor and higher RAM. Well i was wondering if getting a 4g phone would be worth it? Since I live in a small city will 4g LTE be around in my area within a 20 month span? If it will not be around by then I don't see the point in buying a 4g phone. Whats your thoughts on the matter?

Well... 4G will likely be available sometime in the next 20 months as all markets will be rolled out by the end of 2012. Is it worth it now?.... Probably not. A 4G phone in a 3G area is pointless. It all depends on when 4G will be available in your area.

As far as dual vs. single core.... Don't sweat it. Go with what works for you and your intended use.

IMO, this whole situation with the elimination of the 1 year contract changes things substantially. I think you need to best consider what you'll get the most out of over the next 20 months vs the price you pay for the phone. If you wait, by the time the DX2 releases, you'll be into 2013 with your contract, and by that point I believe you'd have or be close to getting 4G. Hard to say when it would happen, but if you're smack in the middle of dense 3G coverge, it's probably a lock by the end of next year.

Verizon 4G Coverage, Devices To Reach 285 Million Americans By 2013

Keep in mind that at some point this year Verizon will likely tack on a premium for 4G service, and that may be mandatory if your phone is capable whether or not you have the coverage. If it pans out as rumored, the DX2 spec-wise (independent of radio) will be hard to beat at release, and it'll probably carry a lower price tag, especially through third party channels. Good luck with your decision.

Any news on when the Droid x2 will be released? And is there any rumors about it running Netflix?

x2 is 3g only correct?
