3G

I just activated my Optimus V last night but I've been using it with wifi for a month or so.

Out walking the dog, away from my wifi, I tried to access the web but couldn't connect.

Status bar says 3G and has full bars. I live in midtown Manhattan so I assume coverage is not a problem.

wifi is turned off, bluetooth turned off, data enabled.

I tried toggling airplane mode as well.

Any ideas?

Are you getting an kind of network error message? If not you can always try to power off and then back on or maybe even a battery pull once you have powered the phone off. Good luck

OK, mea culpa. I should have read the other threads, especially this one.

however, these helpful posts didn't help me.

I tried every sort of re-start, activate (3 different ways - activate app, ##virgin#, settings menu), battery-pull, settings-toggle, etc. I even did a hard re-start (and lost my awesome settings ) to no avail.

After 4 calls to the Executive Escalation number (the # confirmed as of today 7/15/2011 worked for me) I got my 3g turned on.

Long story short: escalation department credited my account and restarted my month and voila. Yippee for me - I got 2 days for free.

I think I complicated things for a couple reasons:
1) I was using my phone as an "aTouch" (wifi only) for about a month. (I don't really think this was the problem)
2) I changed my phone number (sort of by accident) on the VM website the second day I had the phone. ( I think I never quite activated it correctly or I had 2 partial activations or something)

All the time, I had text and phone capabilites.

Also, of note - I mentioned that potentially they needed to reset my "android 3g data plan" or whatever and he said they no longer use that sort of plan differentiation.

I sincerely hope this helps others - I was truly frustrated and annoyed today.

Were you getting no data at all, or was it just intermittent and/or painfully slow? My problem is the latter. I have full bars but the 3G is inconsistent. Speedtest.net says I get about 100-200 kpbs upload speed, but only 20-30kpbs down. What the heck?
