4.5inch quad core vs 5inch dual core

guys,

I want to pick up a new budget android phone and i have narrowed down my choices between these two, Lava Iris 501 or 458q

The 501 has a 5in screen with a dual core cpu but the 458 has quad core but it is 4.5in, which one would you guys choose? They both have 512mb ram so does it matter if its a quad core or dual core since the ram is limited. Am i better off with a bigger screen or quad core? I play a few games but I install lots and lots of apps.

thanks in advance.

If you install "lots and lots of apps" take a look at the internal memory of the two phones. If it's the same then I probably recommend the quad-core phone, I've never actually heard of the 'Lava Iris' before...

They're both very low resolution screens, and the 5" has slightly lower resolution than the 4.5". So I personally see no advantage in the bigger screen unless your eyes are very weak - a bigger, bulkier phone that can't display any extra information and which will look even less sharp. But maybe you just like large screens - it's your choice in the end.

There's more to cpu performance than counting cores: I'd take 2 modern cores over 4 old ones happily. But my guess is that both are budget processors, so may well be using similar or same cores. It's hard to say much without real details.

Overall if I had to choose just between these on the basis of that info I'd go for the 4.5" quad. But RAM and storage look limited on both.

Doesn't matter how great the processor is, running ICS or JB with only 512Mb of RAM is just going to be so slow. Also, as Hadron pointed out, that screen resolution is very low.
