I didn't create any of these images, just cropped, resized, and tweaked compression settings.

So I just finished up cropping/resizing and decreasing quality of some of my favorite android wallpapers. I tried to get the smallest file size without being able to tell a difference in quality. I've loaded most of these up on my EVO and they look fine, no pixelation. I was shooting to get them all under 50k, but I think were a few that were just a little bit over, and I couldn't get them smaller without distortion..

I use multipicture live wallpapers so I can have a different wallpaper for each screen, and having pictures that were 200k-2mb wasn't cutting it for me(especially because I can't tell the difference, especially on a phone). Going from 5 screens of full quality, to these pictures, multipicture starts up a lot faster on start up, and is taking up about 4 MB less of ram.(I'll check later tonight to make sure it doesn't run up through the day)

If anyone is curious how to do this to their own wallpapers, I used Gimp - Basically crop it first to get it close to 480x800, then scale it exactly to 480x800. When you save, save as jpg, that should bring up a "save as" screen. Lower the quality til you can see a change in quality. If that doesn't get it low enough for you, you can play around with progressive under advanced, bringing up smoothing, and changing subsampling to smallest file.

I'll probably do some more, uh, non-android wallpapers at a later date... Its an addiction right now though... lol

Here's a preview of the wallpapers, they are all in the attached zip below.

I had been making most of mine 640x480 but I'll still download these. Thanks.

What is the consensus on Android wallpaper size? Does it just depend on the phone?

It does depend on phone. In general, the wallpaper should be the same height as your screen's resolution and twice as wide to allow for scrolling across multiple screens. For the Galaxy S series, with a screen resolution of 480x800, you'll get the best results if you make your wallpapers 960x800.

If anyone would know it would be you, Eyebeam. You are the wallpaper guy. After I left that comment I even thought I should have left it in your wallpaper thread. Thanks!

You are correct, but if you have a separate wallpaper per screen, 480x800 is the best

I wasn't implying that the ones you posted were the wrong size - I understand that that size has it's uses (lockcreens too). Just answering one guys question.

That's good stuff. Thanks for posting them.
