4G coverage in San Francisco

How good is the 4G coverage in San Francisco? I was considering a 4G phone but wondered about reception and battery life. Any ideas about reception in Union Square and Noe Valley/Diamond Heights area?

Are there places that you definitely lose the signal?
 
I live in south SF bay and get blazing fast 4G all around the bay. LTE battery life is bad with all phones. If your on WiFi don't worry. You need extended battery if 4G only.
