4G in the OC, Calif

I'm not sure when this happened (yesterday I think), but 4G is now up and running in the OC area by JWA. Essentially around Irvine/Santa Ana/Costa Mesa area. I tested the speed and it was anywhere from 4-9 times faster than the 3G.

Pretty cool.. impressed.

Weren't all the "bigger" airports in L.A./O.C. part of the initial "soft" rollout (e.g. LAX, Burbank, Long Beach, Ontario)? Anyhow, thanks for sharing that info. Good to know when I head down that way.
 
I work by the airport, and it was not available until yesterday. LA and OC are 45 minutes away, so I could see the LAX and OC airports being 2 separate projects. If you catch my drift?
 
Live in Santa Ana, i turned my 4g switch on, but still see the lil 3g at the top do i need to go into settings?
 
the 4G will come up automatically. I noticed it along the 55 freeway. From Costa Mesa to Edinger over to Jamboree. hope this helps.

It won't come up automatically if you don't have 4G enabled all the time. I use the widget for 4G just so the phone won't be constantly looking for a 4G signal, while L.A./O.C. is still in the "test" phase. As soon as there's a "full launch" of L.A./O.C., I may change to automatic, but it's not important enough to sacrifice battery life.

Which Widget is that? Sorry for the stupid question. I know I'm looking straight at it.

If you're just using stock Sense UI, you can add a toggle widget to any homepage. Sense UI offers a 4G widget, which is an easy on/off switch for 4G (Much like the bluetooth, wifi, airplane, gps, and mobile toggle widgets).

This way, you don't have to set 4G to "automatically connect" when it's available and the phone's cpu doesn't constantly work to go in and out of 4G coverage.

I actually don't use Sense UI anymore. I converted to Launcher Pro full time and I use an app called Bar Control to place the 4G settings in my toolbar, so whenever I want to connect to 4G, I just pull the drop down bar down and click on the 4G link. That directs me to the 4G settings and I'll just turn it on from there. It's a few more steps than a regular toggle widget, but unfortunately there aren't any "free" 4G toggle widgets out there.
 
yes.... last night i just found out i have 4G in Anaheim too lol. i never even bothered turning 4G on to test it because i figured it wasn't here yet. what a nice surprise!!
