4G vs. 4G LTE

I was considering buying my son one of the phones that Metro has on sale right now at a really cheap price. But I'm trying to figure out which one to get him, what's the difference between the 4g and 4g LTE phones?

Speed, well Internet speeds

MetroPCS has been absorbed by T-Mobile, so it might be branding phones that only have HSPA as "4G" just like T-Mobile and AT&T have done. 4GLTE will usually produce faster download/upload speeds and better ping times, but some areas that have HSPA+42 could potentially match the 4gLTE download speeds. LTE will just about always have better upload and ping times unless there is tower problems or mass congestion.

a 4GLTE phone can potentially get the higher internet speed. all depends on your precise location. for example my location has only 3G service, HSPA 7.2. so technically my carrier can get away with quoting 4G. normally HSPA 21 or higher upto 42 is considered 4G.
if your location has LTE service, battery life will be better on a LTE phone.
