7 unwanted apps

I was looking for information on rooting the Canvas and all of a sudden found that I had 7 new apps...surprise! They were Apple Music, some game called Empire (huge at 101 mb), Yahoo Finance, Huff Post, Newsroom, Security Master (Cheetah Mobile, perhaps), and Yahoo Mail. How the heck did that happen? Right about the same time, Google was trying to force an unwanted update which I hope I was able to cancel in time. Are they somehow related? I deleted them, but I how can I make sure they won't reappear?

What sort of update were Google trying to push out? System updates come from the manufacturer or the carrier. Anyway, if you could delete the apps they weren't part of a system update.

You are right that Security Master is a Cheetah Mobile product. I guess you know better than to have any of their other stuff on your phone, but if it was just that this would seem less weird. Were these actually installed rather than just downloaded? If so, and they didn't come from the Play Store, I'd check your apps' permissions and see whether you have any app installed that has the permission to install other apps. But that's an odd mix of mostly legitimate apps (I don't know about the game, and my thoughts on Cheetah Mobile are a matter of record), not the sort of thing that malware would generally try to push. If they did come from the Play Store then there should have been some user interaction (conceivably if you interrupted something Google were doing it might have had an odd effect, but installing 7 random apps seems unlikely).

No, this one is just mine (for now). I'm not sure what kind of update because I was rushing to find and press cancel. I also went into apps and told any Google app I could find NO to system modification. Will that be enough to stop the OTA crap?
