A boring wallpaper issue

Newbie
Hi-I'm an old guy which equates to a degree of idiocy when it comes to cell phones. That said, please forgive a simplistic (but not for me) question regarding my wallpaper. The settings on this phone-newly purchased-are a maze for me to navigate. The issue: I cannot stop the wallpaper on the home screen from randomly changing. I try to set one of 3 purchased wallpapers but they always change following a reboot. I've Googled the problem and have found a gazillion remedies yet of the ones that I've tried none work.
Many of the answers refer to "live" wallpapers yet I can't even locate a setting for that-or does it only come via an app? It may seem to be a trivial issue, and it is, but it's both annoying and frustrating. Thanks!

Never mind. I figured it out
Do you mind posting the solution. Believe it or not, things like your problem annoy a lot of people. With smart phones becoming more and more ubiquitous and falling into the hands of less tech savvy folks, having solutions posted in laymen's terms helps more than you think. :)

PS. I'm happy you got is sorted. :)

I considered not responding to your request as the truth is embarrassing. I lied. I'm sorry. I did not find a resolution. After receiving no posts trying to help (though only a few hours had elapsed), in addition to noticing that folks had thousands of posts which only served to highlight my ineptitude and what may have been seen as a silly question, I opted to leave things be and head for the hills. Am I banned? lol

Never banned. One thing you will find here is that no question is dumb and no member is belittled for asking. You may see some of us razzing each other, please don't interpret that as how we treat new members.

Every one of us (and you will note that I am right at the top of the list of members posting) started with a single post asking a single question to try and make our device work the way we wanted. We were welcomed and the folks that could help, did. I had a problem with my wife's phone, and another great member, @scary alien helped me out with it. I was scared to death to try one of the internet forums at the time, but I was welcomed, helped, and I've enjoyed contributing here ever since.

I'm not familiar with the quirks that come with Sense, the user interface that is included on Samsung phones, so I can't help myself in your actual question. There are numerous Samsung users here. Hopefully one can come along and offer some guidance. :)

While Samsung phones are well made and come in a variety of versions/price ranges, one of the peculiarities is that they don't all work quite the same way from model to model. It's confusing for a veteran user, let alone someone who's got little experience. I feel your pain.

Normally to set a wallpaper on ANY android phone you simply find an empty area of your home screen and touch and hold until the menu options appear. It should have an option for wallpaper. My guess is you not only got three images, but they cam as part of an app and a feature of that particular app is to rotate wallpapers.

Hi, odeek, and welcome to Android Forums!

I've been dabbling around in Settings, trying to figure out why your lock screen is featuring different wallpapers... while I didn't find any definite cause, I have a few suggestions for you to check:

1. If you have Cortana or Bing installed, go into their settings and turn off their lock screen functions.

2. Go to Settings - - > Wallpapers and Themes and look at your wallpaper library. You should be able to set up a specific wallpaper for your home screen, lock screen or both.

3. Check that 'Always On Display' is not cycling the wallpaper or background.

See what that does and get back to us...

No, there are 3 that I chose from "Samsung Themes-" all individual purchases. Initially I went to settings>wallpapers & themes & tried to find a couple of themes that I liked. I tried your method & it took me to the same place. When I was at settings>wallpapers & selected a theme that I had purchased it asks me if I want to use it on 3 different screens ie locked, home screen, and something else. I "apply" it and all seems fine. Until I restart.

It's really not a big deal & I guess that I should learn to live with it. But I have OCD & am a perfectionist (problematic!) and just leaving it alone is a difficult option

P.S.: I'm not crazy about being called a "lurker." Sounds a bit perverse

Not to worry, a few more posts and you'll be a "newbie". ;)

One more question about your wallpaper issue, when you reboot your phone, does it always reset to the same wallpaper? or does it just select one in your gallery at random?

Try just sitting down and opening up the Settings menu of your J7 and just open up each option (note a lot of them also have their own sub-menus, and some of those have their sub-menus). It's a good way to learn just what features your particular phone has and change things to suit your own preferences.

Sheesh, now I feel overwhelmed with possibilities. I'll be back much later after I've tried these possible solutions, learned how to insert quotes, how to open the gallery (which I can't even find, etc.). I think I've opened a can of worms and will need to break out the Valium. For you Lunatic, it opens with different wallpapers & from where they come I have no idea!!o_O

When the Mrs. gets home from work I'll give a quick look into the TouchWiz wallpaper settings and see if there's some obscure option to rotate wallpapers from the default gallery. She's got a stock S7 so it should be sorta similar.

Odeek, if nothing else try this:

just long-press any blank spot on the home screen. That will open up options for Wallpapers, themes, etc. Pick Wallpapers and select the ONE wallpaper that you want. See if that fixes it. Not sure about your lockscreen, unless it gives you an option to set the wallpaper for the home screen and/or lockscreen. In that case, select one for one, one for another, or one for both. Maybe that will solve the dilemma.

That's what I always do, or go to settings>wallpapers and you end up at the same place. I pick one from my collection, check the box for both home screen and lock screen, then hit apply. Works great. Until I restart it. I don't want anyone to think I'm being dismissive or rude, but I just don't have time today to try all of these fixes. So if I don't respond today please be patient. I'm so pleased with this forum-you all have been great with so many offers of help. But I may not get it done for a day or so.:D:D

No one thinks you are being dismissive or rude. If it takes you a week, a month, or a year to try the suggestions, that's OK. Post back when something does or doesn't work, and we will poke at the problem from a different direction or congratulate you on a successful fix. We aren't all hanging on this thread looking for a reply. If you post back two weeks from now with a follow up, everyone that posted will get a notification, and we can pick up the conversation then. :)

WELL!! As far as I'm concerned you all should be hanging on this thread for a reply! What better way to spend your Thursday evening?
Then you better try and give feedback on EVERY damn suggestion RIGHT NOW!!!! :p :p :p

Cheers mate!!!!

Hey, don't worry we all have outside lives (except @Unforgiven :p). I personally am awaiting for the arrival of a granddaughter, so when we get the call I'm off to the hospital and probably won't be around much for a few days.

About your issue ... I poked around the S7 and found very few settings in themes and wallpapers. This begs the question have you installed any kind of wallpaper app? Just downloading a theme shouldn't effect the way the wallpapers behave. Or, might have the image you want as a permanent wallpaper stored in an odd folder, on an SD card or in the cloud? The only thing I am thinking is that at boot time, Android can't find your image because it hasn't mounted that location yet (just guessing here). Or, try assigning one of the stock wallpapers and then reboot to see if it sticks. If it does, then take the image you REALLY want and move it to a different folder. Then apply it and see that fixes it.
