A few Questions.

Hi guys! I am going to be needing a new phone pretty soon. I have my eye on the F60 and the Samsung Galaxy Avant.

First I see this phone has onscreen keys, as I only had phones with hardware keys what are the pro and cons to having soft keys in your mind. Are you used to having soft keys now? Also how much screen real estate does the software keys take from the rest of the screen, and can you auto hide the keys when not needed.

And how does this phone compare to the Samsung Galaxy Avant and the older LG F6 for those of you who have used and played with them.

does this phone have gorilla glass? If not how durable is the glass screen on this phone?

Thanks.

I have an F60 and I've played with the avant (rooting available for both).
Hardware comparison:
  • Both are snappy because of the similar quad-core cpu, but it seems that the avant "feels" faster.
  • The avant also is slightly bigger length wise to the f60 in design (probably to have the space for the hard buttons) even though they have the same 4.5" screen.
  • Both have the same 2100 mAh battery
  • The avant has more internal storage: F60="4gb" (you get at least 2gb free), Avant = "10gb" (didn't really look at the storage in settings but you'd probably be getting 6gb out of the box)
  • Avant accepts 64gb micro sd, whereas the F60 only can take up 32gb
  • Resolutions: avant =540 x 960 pixels, f60=480 x 800
  • Avant has more RAM, around 1.5gb. F60 has only 865mb.
  • Both do not have gorilla glass (these aren't flagship quality phones...)
I once had a phone that hard keys and it was a sammy running gingerbread android (lol). Never had a problem with it but this argument won't settle which is "best."
Hard key pros:
  • Less sensitive
  • Doesn't affect display
Hard key cons:
  • Since it's hardware the button's switch may eventually loose it function and not work (wear and tear)
Soft key pros:
  • Will never loose it's function
  • Can be hidden (can be achieved using root methods or having a device that's running vanilla KK using it's native immersive mode function)
Soft key cons"
  • Very sensitive and prone to accidental swipes
  • Depending on the pixel density of the rom, the nav bar can be cumbersome on the display of the device.

Incakola summed up very well there :)
I use LG F60 and my wife has Galaxy Avant.
By the design F60 looks little bit wider and Avant looks little bit longer. But whichever you buy it's worth every $49 or $99. They are both nice for budget buy who want to spend max $100.

Yeah from specs alone they are both great phones. I do like my F60 and I have no regrets at all with it so far. Though I might be regretful if there wasn't root for it.
