A good launcher for my dad?

Okay, so I finally convinced my dad to get with the program and get an android phone. He's an electrician, so he uses a few conversion app thingies, and also recieves emails daily. he needs to be able to glance at his phone and see any missed calls or messages, and preferably be able to operate the home screen with gloves on. Any ideas?

What Phone did he get? You can put widgets etc on the lockscreen of some newer handsets and nexus devices. If that's the case, you can look at something like Missed It or Dashclock which can display lists of outstanding notifications.

Operating the screen with gloves on may be a little difficult due to the way modern touchscreens work, unless he has capacitive gloves?

He should get most notifications in his notification bar. If he wants more info on his lockscreen, combinations of Widgetlocker and the apps I mentioned above should do it.

With Nova Launcher & Tesla Unread, he could get the numbers floating above app icons to signify the number of emails/SMS etc as well. You need ICS and above for that though.

I think you can get the numbers above the icons with ADW Launcher as well, although I can't confirm.

OK thanks! I'll tell him about that and have him try that out.
