A hypothetical question - what would you do?

Ok, so I had this idea of a hypothetical scenario to play out and I'd be really interested to know what peoples answers would be. I shall begin.


The year is 2000 and something, and the Earth is on the brink of apocalypse (be it meteorite, super volcano, dinosaurs, thermonuclear war, whatever). You have the opportunity to save 0.05% of the Earth's population, but need to deduce a system as to know who to save and who not to.

There are some rules -

• You are able to select friends and family as a selfish one, however that will no where near fill your 0.05% people quota (approx 3.5m people based on the current global population).
• You are not allowed to choose people based on their race, religious beliefs, or how wealthy they are/are not.

You can go so far as making up how the world is ending and how these 0.05% will be saved if you so wish.
