A new political party?

There are several minor parties in the United States. If I were to join one of them, it would be the Libertarian Party. I don't believe in big government like the progressive movement does.

What we need to do is get people to vote en masse against the two major parties.

The libertarians are the third largest party, though it does them little good. Back in the 2004 race their presidential candidate, Badnerik, was arrested for trying to serve a court order to show cause why he was excluded from the debate. I believe both Bush and Kerry refused to attend the debate if third party candidates were allowed.

Yes, I know that 2 or 3 other third parties can claim to be the third largest depending on how you count membership or actual votes for the party. Still, I have yet to see a party that consistently has more candidates at all levels of government.

As I see it, right now that only "fringe party" currently active that has a valid shot at splitting from the main parties and launching a successful national third party, as much as it pains me to say it, is the Tea Party. As I see it, the Tea party does not need the republican party as much as the republican party needs them. That said, such a split would not be at the expense of democrats and would leave both the repuiblicans and the Tea party in a relatively weak bargaining position, at least for the time being.

I think that there is a lot of room for yet another party in this country, a centrist party with clear policies both to the left and right of center. Sadly being a centrist in this country often leads to bad press, so even politicians who are centrists tend to avoid being painted as such in the press.

I would think the best situation is where you have three parties;
A Center Right party
A Center Left party
A Centerist Liberal party

In a lot of countries the latter two are one and the same, but I'd rather have them seperate.

The tea part isn't a political party though. They are just a movement, mostly republican, that is attempting to swing the two major parties toward less taxes. Their only influence is on the republicans though as the less taxes issue is a republican issue, dems are all for taxing and spending that money on social issues like healthcare, social security and more government regulations.

Unfortunately any third party candidate will almost always play the spoiler, Ross Perot or Ralph Nader, role. The citizens in this country are so used to only have 2 options that when a 3rd option shows up a small percentage made mostly of one of the two major parties will flock to that 3rd option. When that happens the election is handed to the other party. This is why both Bush and Kerry refused to attend the debate if a third party candidate was allowed. That year Badnerik would have pulled plenty of votes from Bush and Nader from Kerry. The solution to this is forcing the debate to include anyone who is on half the state ballets. Once these other parties had a chance to be heard I think the stranglehold the corporations have on us would crumble.

Well the reason they are the same in most countries is that they are the same ideals. This would not affect any change as it would only be splitting the democratic party in 2. If voters voted the party line it would hand the republican party a victory every election.

Three parties is not enough. As it stands now we basically have 3 parties. Dems, Reps and independents. For the most part this breaks down to left, right and center and is roughly percentage wise 40, 40 and 20. This is why both major candidates attempt to appear center-right or center-left during the general election but attempt to portray a hard party line during the primary. The idea is to entrench yourself with that 40% and try to appeal to enough of the center to pick up the majority.

If the majority of the republicans split in 2 or 3 groups and the dems split into 2 or 3 groups that would ensure that whichever candidate that won would be forced to work with other parties to ensure they could pass legislation. This would make more issues important than just the standard republican ideas of keeping defense spending and democrat ideas of more social projects.

With my plan above, the Democratic party would be split in three tbh. No harm.
I wouldn't see the plan happening tho.
There is plenty of room for smaller parties too, a Green Party for example.
I think the hard right is far too strong in the US for it to ever happen tho.

This is the unfortunate sad, truth. Fringe parties are better off being factions within the two major parties. Greens and the like are usually members of the Democratic Party; while libertarians and such are members of the Republican Party. They are factions who only join the major parties to win elections, and are not always loyal to their party leadership.

There are more than 40 political partys (parties) currently registered in this country. And you really think we need yet one more party that goes no where, do ya?

There were more than 70 parties now defunct and perhaps a hundred or so state parties. Too many parties wasting valueable time and money and effort.

We do not need yet another party that. Perhaps you should research the parties that exist and see if one of them is in-line with your dreams, goals, and aspirations.
