A Nexus in China.

Looking to upgrade my phone this summer, I've decided what to buy, don't think there's any need to say what I've decided upon, by the fact I'm posting in this forum.:) It's replacing a Samsung Galaxy Win Duos, i8552 which I've had for coming on a year now. Buying it in the UK or Hong Kong, and using it in mainland China. Getting the 32GB one as 16GB wouldn't be enough, and storing stuff in Google's cloud is not an option. I only use Google's basic services, like Play, Gmail, Calendar, Maps and Youtube. I did look at the Samsung S4 or S5 but they're quite expensive unlocked and without carrier subsidy, plus KNOX and e-fuses is not a feature I particularly need. So that why I've decided on the Nexus, as it seems like a good phone for the price.

So watch this space...

I'm curious why storing stuff in Google's cloud isn't an option, as you have access to other Google services. Is it just that Google Drive specifically is on the wrong side of "the firewall" or something? Just for having a Google account you get 15GB Drive storage for free.

Anyway, I think you'll like the Nexus 5. Definitely a lot a bang for the buck, as well as being one of the most powerful devices out there.

Let us know how it goes.

Yeh Drive is on the wrong side of the Great FireWall*. It's accessible through a VPN. I have put some stuff up, my important documents and photos, as an off-site backup. But using Drive for storing and streaming music and video, instead of storing it on the phone itself, is not really possible and would be prohibitively expensive because I don't have unlimited mobile data. My 3G is metered. So it would just be restricted to home or the office, or a place that has WiFi. Internet speeds in and out of China can be dial-up like on occasions, which plays hell with streaming.

Sure.... I'm getting the 32GB one definitely, that's what I've decided upon now, after considering a lot of Chinese phones.... LOL. Seems like a great bang for the buck. :)

* BTW Microsoft OneDrive is fully accessible in the PRC, however they allow the government full access to everything. Like MS does with Skype in China.
