A nightmare situation

Hi all, apologies in advance if this is in the wrong place, I'm on a hurry.

Short version is I need to get photos off Mum's SGS 2 before it royally dies. Micro USB port is mangled beyond repair to the point of smouldering (until I cleaned it) so there goes the option of rooting and using titanium to backup to an MSD. But it was gone anyway thanks to Telstras worthless POS network specific build of gingerbread.

Only option left is to go via kies air or kies via wifi. Kies is, without a doubt in the world, the most pathetic excuse for programming I have ever seen in my life and that is including steam and origin. Kies via wifi won't work because we don't have a machine that has wifi. I used to be able to connect my SGS2 through to this PC that is running a LAN connection straight into the modem, but its not working anymore for whatever reason. Same with mums SGS 2 that is the important one. Randomly stopped working.

Kies Air is simply not connecting, the phone gives me 10.0.0.4:8080 and thats a no action. Just doesn't connect.

I have vivid memories of being able to do a direct connection using a command from the RUN menu or something with my SGS2 something about getting it to connect to the phone through the wifi network. I also seem to remember having to do something in the adaptor settings (all win 7 UI) if that rings any bells. I remember I used to use it to bypass Samsungs rubbish.

EDIT: At this point I don't care about the handset, All I give a damn about are the photos. If I can backup to the SD card thats in there thats fine. ANY way to get the photos onto my pc is gold.

Thanks in advance.

Nevermind, This handset is a write off and its not coming back. manually copied photos onto the SD. Now knowing my luck the SD card will fail

Thanks anyway.

Get an SD adapter and connect that to a PC. Also, Kies Air works by having your phone and PC on the same local network, so that won't work for you.

As a suggestion, next time use a cloud service like Dropbox to backup photos to your PC as soon as they are taken.
