A question about Verizon Data Usage

This may seem like an odd question and this may not be the right forum but I'm going to give it a shot.

I purchased a 2016 Lexus ES350 that allows me to connect my phone to the car via a Bluetooth connection. In addition to allowing me to use my phone thru the car it also allows me to play music thru the car's audio system via the Bluetooth connection.

Here's my question and concern.....

If I'm playing an album thru my phone using Google Play how much data is chewed up by the streaming of these songs thru the wireless connection? I only have a 3 GB Verizon plan and that data is being shared by 3 users and I don't want eat up all of my data by streaming songs while in my car. Any help will be appreciated.

The data used depends on the songs bitrate.

60 minutes of music with a 128Kbps bit rate = 55MB
3 hours at 128Kbps = 170MB

60 minutes of music with a 256Kbps bit rate = 115MB
3 hours at 256Kbps = 340MB

60 minutes of music with a 320Kbps bit rate = 140MB
3 hours at 320Kbps = 425MB

If you are streaming music in Google Play Music you can lower the quality so less data is used:

So my next question..... How would one tell what bit rate is being used on a download when playing MP3 audio files using Google Play? Is this something you can check on your phone or is this something Verizon can tell me. I understand the point you were making I just don't know how to tell the bitrate. Thanks

I think that is a setting in the app. I haven't used GPM, but I remember having the option when I used TuneIn Radio all the time. IIRC I could set a max

I'm not sure if you can see the bit rate in the app, the ones I listed are simply common amounts for music.

You could use a data monitoring app and stream music for 30 or 60 minutes and see how much was used.
