a question on programming.... please help :(

hey everyone... lately ive been in a rut... i went to college for computer programming and heres my predicament... lately ive been feeling that any app i think of making is already been made... i could end up being like apple and taking other ideas and making a stew of apps :P and i like that idea... but the thing IS, i love web apps, but idk if their still relevant because of mobile apps.. id like to get into mobile app desining, but at the same time, i absolutely hate the idea of compiling, testing.. and learning JAVA! my most hated language of all...

so i guess my whole question is, is web app designing still relevant? does anyone REALLY still use their PC? not to mention, do people use the mobile web for web apps? usually theirs native ones that people would rather..

i love cross platform, i hate compiling, i love javascript, but RUE java. id maybe like to try mobile (but java really sets me off and away from it). so what do you guys think? just keep going and go with it? the apps i make are usually just for myself anyways, so i dont mind their popularity.. just worry that my language will die in the future, even "unforseeable future"

Try Fortran or Cobol. They've been around for a very long time, they're cross platform, not quite as popular as they once were, but are not about to go away any time soon.

What are the languages that you know?

Javascript has quite a few similarities to Java, in fact most languages have similarities today. I learned Java my first year in college and then C# the next along with a couple more. But there are even similarities to the structure with those two (C# and Java). Because they are Object-Oriented Programming languages (OOP).

And learning Cobol while isn't needed wouldn't be a bad idea from a income standpoint. Cobol is an older language that the older generations know, and in the next 5-10 years a majority of those people that know it well will be going into retirement (in the US) creating a need for people who understand the language. While some of the projected figures I have seen for it seem a bit out there, I am sure it will rise indefinitely. This is why there has been more systems being converted to some other language in the past few years, there are still government systems relying on Cobol as well as banks.

Well I've pretty well decided on python in place if java... However little real support there is on android

And ik JavaScript.. python was real easy and I like it, c++, visual basic (lol...) And a couple others I can't think of off the top of my dome but those are the main ones I've used

I'd say web apps will be even more popular in the future. I hear that the Firefox OS is using html5 apps...

And tons of companies use internal web apps... and just think, you could make the next pandora or something... :P

I'm trying to get into some programming (most web related), so I might be a bit biased. :)

web apps aren't going anywhere anytime soon...so no worries about that...Python is kind of the first step on a tier of learning programming...get that down...and then.. it will be easier to move on to Java..which I'm sorry to say but...I feel(just my opinion) you really should know... if you want to dev professionally

Like I said, I loaaaath java ;) lol

Howzit my fellow Troglodyte! :)

I will give you the best advice known to mankind! :D

You see I was once upon a time board in life... I think I had too much spare time or it could just be that I was born insane... :)

So with my minor (or should I say pathetic instead!? :D) mindless programming Skills I decided to make something very productive... Efficent and helpful to all of mankind! :)

So guess what I did with my very small knowledge in the art of C +++++?

I decided to make a virus!

YES! :)

Because I love mankind! :):):)

XD

Hahahaha!

Yeah!

You see I eventually stumbled upon the secret of infinite fruit loop thingies or something like that?

I made 1 infinite loop filled with mindless gibberish which I thought would eat up my RAM quick quick and crash my computer because I am such a nice guy!

I like a the gibberish! :)

BUT much to my surprise because my comptuer is the Incredible Bulk (no trade mark needed here bruizer!) And has 8 bazzillion terrabytes of ram I was unhappy that my compiled C++++++---- program called "whatisthatsmell.cpp" it was taking so ******* long that I could not see any thing slowing The Incredible Bulk down so like a good well mannered young man I got pretty angry that the time I took to make this 5 minute mess of a program was not crashing my computer! :)

SO I DECIDED TO GET REVENGE! :)

So I made I think it was I think it was about 35 inifite fruit loop thingies so I could break my own computer! :)

FINALLY.

After a whole freaking 30 minutes of seriously painful back breaking work out of my precious life - it started to WORK! :)

My virus was slowing the Incredible Bulk down! :):):)

:D

Whahahahaa!!

I made an evil laugh when I started to see my tiny little mouse thingy slowin down after about a good solid 35 minutes of waiting! :)

My computer froze like it had been sprayed with liquid Nitrogen!

It was a great success! :)

Now I am off to bomb the presidents house because I Love all things! :D
