(Two kids are walking home from school. They notice the American flags are being flown at half-staff.)
Kid #1: "Hey, Governor Christie is flying the flags at half-staff today. Who died?
Kid #2: "Snookie". ;)
Whitney Houston sang "The National Anthem" better than I've ever heard at a sporting event.
Sure, she had become addicted to drugs. But with lots of drugs around in the entertainment industry + the money to buy them + a nagging insecurity that you somehow don't quite fit in, albeit with those who may have only a fraction of your talent + a domineering husband who may or may not have encouraged you = drug addiction.
"There, but for the grace of God, go I."
Next? We'll be draping the coffins of deceased entertainers with the American flag?

The State flags aren't at half mast? :p

But yeah, I think sometimes we place too much value on some people who have been going downhill of their own accord for years, or who never deserved fame in the first place.

Lindsay Lohan? Paris Hilton? Anna Nicole Smith? We as a culture love train wrecks. Lohan's supposed to host Saturday Night Live 2/25.
You just brought to my attention that, though I sypmpathize for Whitney, I absolutely LOATHE Lindsay Lohan! What's the diff.?
I suppose were Lohan to die, I'd feel sorry for her, as well.

It is always their choice. I am sick and tired of the excuses. I no longer care to expend my energy worrying about those that die from their bad choices, because EVERYONE knows drugs can kill you.

Sadly, drugs have taken much from us.

Same song, same artist, decades apart and still great:
