A Fun Little Story before I introduce the problem:
Due to some lucky chain of events I happened to stumble over an HTC Magic that was ringing on the ground. I quickly grabbed it and flipped it over. Realizing the screen was cracked, I was discouraged and was convinced the device was not functional. However, upon unlocking it and realizing the touch screen and all buttons were still functional, I decided to keep it.
Skip here if you don't care about the story:
So I'm trying to root this thing. It didn't come with an SD card, and I did not possess a charger for it. I went out and stupidly purchased a wall charger instead of one that could hook to a computer as well as the wall. I've yet to purchase an SD card for it but luckily I had another android phone, so I stuck that SD card into it. What I want to know is, is there anyway to root it without formatting the SD card (which would erase all of the data on my current SD card) or root it without the use of a USB cable? In other words, is there an app that is able to root it without downgrading 2.2.1 to 1.5?
Edit:
The specs on it are:
Android: 2.2.1
TMobile: HTC Magic Mytouch 3G 32A
