A VERY brief mention of Android 3.1...

Lurker
Alright, so I've been a lurker on this site for a little while now, mostly looking for updates on the HTC Incredible/N1 for Big Red (but that's another post for another time). However, I finally have something to contribute - it's not a lot, but it's something.

So I'm attending an event planners conference in Louisville, KY, and I met some people from a company called Scvngr (check out their website for more info). They're a mobile geo-gaming platform, available in SMS, iPhone & Android apps. Anyway, I was talking to one of their reps today, and was able to learn some potentially interesting tidbits.

First, the rep mentioned that Scvngr recently had Gmail developers working in their offices, to help oversee and upgrade their back-end of the gaming programming. And while he's telling me about this, he lets slip that they're also working with Google on improvements for their gaming experience that will be released with Android 3.1...buh?! (I should mention, he was the one who said, clear as day, "Android 3.1" - not me). He quickly tried to brush off that point, but I persisted with a few more questions. He then tells me the "improvements" that Scvngr & Google are working on together revolve around QR code scanning.

The plan (or so I was told) is to utilize QR codes for Scvngr games. However, while working with G, they issue came up that sometimes the games happen in places with less than ideal lighting. The solution? G's working on upgrades to the ability of the QR scanning app, enabling it to take up to 8 pics/second - essentially "scanning" the QR code, until it gets a clear shot of it to analyze the data.

Sadly, that's all I have for now. Sorry to get anyone's hopes up with the title, but I figured any info was worth sharing. Glad to contribute, and hopefully I'll be able to stumble across more news in the future to share.

well - we can rest assured that Nexus One owners will get first dibs on 3.1 :D

Droid users, well - probably by 2015... LOL

At the rate 2.1 is rolling out to everyone else we might be communicating with telepathy by the time a 3.1 is available.
