Aarons Rental loads spyware in all their computers?!

While Aaron's did seem to go a bit overboard, I see where they're coming from. As a rental company you have to keep an eye on what your customers are doing with your property and make sure they aren't damaging it or doing illegal things with it. I'm sure people have done tons of illegal things on their computers and tried to dump it on Aaron's because it's their property.

However, the keylogging seems a bit too much already, on top of the pictures. I'm curious if this "tracking" information was in their contract or not in the tiny print somewhere. It's also strange the manager decided to show the picture to him if he's not supposed to in the first place. I'm wondering what this guy was doing on their computer to cause them to prove it was him by showing him the picture.

Also, while the pictures and keylogging does seem invasion of privacy. If they have to rent a computer, it seems they're obviously in a financial issue. While it is bad what happened to them, it also sounds like they're just trying to make a quick buck out of a big company.

Playing devils advocate. What if this spyware is used to photo children or the couples bedroom actives?

I understand they(Aaron) need to protect themselves. But, it seems like a very thin line to me.

Yeah just trying to look at it from the business end. But yes I do feel that keylogging and random pictures are a bit excessive.

If you wipe the drive and do a clean install yourself, they won't be able to spy on you.

I recall that some school did that to students. They used the web cam to see if the students were skipping or not.

Does Aarons have GPS tracking stuff on their sofas and tables too? What if someone is weighing out baggies of cocaine on the table while his whore is servicing a john on the sofa? Those are illegal activities. This is a bunch of crap, there's no reason for them to do what they are doing.

Aaron's, the Atlanta-based rent-to-own company, is being sued by over confidentiality problems by a Wyoming couple. The couple states that a computer they rented last year was used to spy on them in their home. The suit raises problems about privacy and ethics in the computer-age. Aaron

There's also a privacy issue returning a PC to a RTO outfit. Cached passwords, contacts, files, etc. are probably all going to still be on the drive. After all, most of the folks renting a computer on terms as described would not be computer literate enough to wipe their info before returning the computer to the shady characters working at the RTO store.

Good point.

The moral of this story is never use the RTO stores. You pay more in the long run and you don't actually own what you've got so you run into issues like this.
