Help ? About Foxfi & Laptop's Internet Connection

This is my first smart phone and I haven't had it for quite two months. From what I understood, I could turn on Foxfi and make my phone a mobile hotspot. I thought that meant I could get on line with my laptop when I'm away from home. I was at the lake this weekend. Turned on Foxfi, turned on my laptop and no Internet access. I locate the Foxfi signal icon in network settings and connect but can't go online. Should I be able to?
At home, I've disconnected the laptop from the router's signal and chose Foxfi for my signal. This time I'm able to access the internet.

I don't use it too often, but lately my home internet has been flaky. I sometimes have to re-connect a few times to get it working right.

Also if you don't have a good signal at the lake it's not going to do much.

Two things come to mind.
1) is there a good 3g or 4g signal at the lake? I know it's a basic question, but it had to be asked. :) If you can't browse ON the phone, you can't browse THROUGH it either.
2) Try turning off wifi on the phone. I've had that interfere with Foxfi.

The other thing I have found that interferes with FoxFi is bluetooth. Be sure to turn off Bluetooth before trying to connect with FoxFi.

Thanks JB, I didn't know about that one.
No problem! The first time I used FoxFi, it connected without issue, then next time, it connected, but wouldn't give internet access. I fidddled with it, restarted the app, rebooted the phone, no change. Then I tired turning off Bluetooth, and haven't had an issue since, as long as I turn off Bluetooth first. :D

I'm home now. It must have been Bluetooth causing the problem. Yes, I could browse with the phone at the lake and I know they had access because they offered guest connections. I tested it here at the house. Disconnecting from my router and turning on Foxfi WITH Bluetooth, I can't connect thru the phone. Turn BT off and I CAN connect thru the phone. Thanks!

I'm having the same problem as monica, I am new to smartphone and just came across foxfi. I do not have internet connection at home and would like to use fox fi to surf the internet on my laptop. I am having problems no internet access can anyone help me?

Well, for me having Bluetooth enabled has no impact whatsoever in regard to Foxfi working...... Do know that when you click on FoxFi network connection being offered by your Razr Maxx that you may get a message after say 20 seconds saying the connection failed and do you want to diagnose. Don't diagnose but wait another 30-45 seconds and eventually your no internet connection will turn into local internet connection to connected and you will be all set. Again disregard the message that the connection has failed and wait for the minute until the connection is established //// when you hear the click noise from Foxfi that indicates the connection is made.

Also remember to go to your network connections icon in the System tray and choose the FoxFi connection.

I'va a galaxy s3 on t-mobile. I installed the foxfi app along with the addon and no luck of using it a s a hotspot.

I turned off bluetooth but nothing. When I verify the connection on the laptop it appears with full strength singnal, but when I hit connect there's no internet access.

Any help????

It may be better to try the s3 thread. But sure if they have a t mobile specific forum, it so post there.

It may be an issue with t mobile as it works fine for me and other s3 owners have reported it works fine for them also.

Sorry if I sounded rude

Recognizing that this thread is a couple months old, did anyone have any other suggestions or ideas for this issue? I've turned off Metro's WiFi . . . I've turned off Bluetooth . . . I've turned off the phone and rebooted, as well as the laptop . . . I've uninstalled, and re-installed . . . I still can't get this to work. Keeps giving me the limited access message, even though I have full/excellent connectivity . . . it's SO driving me nutz!

Thanx for any help you might be able to provide!

I've surfed and read probably 10 forums regarding Foxfi connection issues. Seems to work for some, not for others. Only thing I can figure is the app is in the beta stage and still evolving.

We've tried it with Bluetooth on and off, with wifi on and off, rebooted the phone multiple times, installed PDANet to replace Foxfi, and we can not get any of our laptops (two ThinkPads and a MacBook Pro) to browse the web. The phone surfs fine and shows the hotspot is active but based on what I can tell we're only getting an IP address from the PDANet / Foxfi app - as in we're connected to the Foxfi network. For some reason Foxfi can't access the web as a hotspot.

Maybe Verizon blocks the HTC Incredible 4G LTE in order to make Verizon customers use their $20 a month hotspot plan.

Anyway, thanks for the forum. More info is good. Still looking for a solid and free wifi hotspot app. Thanks!
