Root About rooting 32A Magic

Hi guys,

I'm very new to rooting and very cautious about this as i dont wanna brick my phone =X

So a few questions..

Firstly, according to
Full Update Guide - HTC Magic (32A) - CyanogenMod Wiki
the site gave different instructions for handsets with SPL/hboot being 1.76.2007 and being 1.76.0010. But mine is 1.76.0007. So which set of instructions do i follow?

Also, are there like any major flaws with the cyanogenmod 6? I wouldn't wanna root then come to regret it :S
