about the battery

I would say the size of this phone either 32gb or 64 fits my size for sure but how is the battery life this will be key for me if i were to get the note over the maxx or galaxys5
 
Good news if the battery is indeed bigger than the N3. The N3 battery was increased from the N2. Both of my Note phones have given me by far the best battery life of any phone I have ever had. I expect the 4 will have similar battery life, even with the extra horsepower and pixels.
 
I am going to get 2 xtra battery + external charge cradle for it. Take 1 min to change in and out. That solves all my problems.

that would be amazing to have a phone that could last that long the maxx which is the current biggest battery is 3500 mah. Perhaps that new note is worth the wait and the battery can last more than 48 hours?
 
I've got 4 spare batteries for my N3. I bought them in a package deal with a cradle and charger I believe. They do not allow NFC, but they work well. Honestly, I have never needed to use them - I bought them with the cradle (which I quit using, lol). But I sometimes do extended backcountry hikes and use my phone and several topo mapping/gps apps for keeping track of where I am, and therefore like to have the security of extra batteries. But most of the places I do these hikes has no cell service, so when I put it into airplane mode the phone literally last days on one charge, even when using GPS, playing music on the phone, etc. Which means the cell radio does take up a lot of battery when in use. In any case, I have been extremely happy with the battery life on both my N2 and N3 and expect the N4 to have similar, if not better battery life. And I will still likely buy a couple of spare batteries anyway, lol.
 
What app do you use for backcountry hikes and tracking?

You mean when phone cannot find a signal, it use more battery?

I have several - shoot, maybe all of the ones that are worth having. And yes, I DL the specific maps or tiles to my phone and then don't need any signal at all of any kind except GPS line of sight of course. Here are a list of my favorite backcountry apps, in a pretty basic order of preference of use:

Backcountry navigator pro
US topo maps
AlpineQuest
Backpacker GPS trails pro
Alltrails
Trimble outdoors navigator
Everytrail pro
OsmAnd+
Maps.me (does not have topo maps ability)
 
I see. I only use SportsTracker Pro because it track n map where I go and how much calories I burn. I think it guess how much calories I burn.

I never done back country. It would be fun doing it alone and bear come looking for food. :vroam:

LOL. Well, I live in Montana (not originally from here) and do a fair share of backcountry stuff. Yes there are bears, but you are in more actual danger driving on the highway to the trailhead getting in an auto accident than a bear killing you. Still, it is something a person takes measures for in the mountains - like hanging your food items high up so bear cannot get to them, etc. Ohh - and carry bear pepper spray. :)

I also do some backcountry paking in other states like Utah, Arizona, etc. I was actually in Maui about a month ago and a good portion of the island has spotty or no service and having the maps DL'd directly to my phone was a big bonus. Anyway, that's why I have about ten different topo/gps apps!
 
The note line has always gotten superb battery life so I wouldn't be too concerned. The 805 is supposed to have better power management then the 801 so I don't think the bump in screen resolution will be that big of an issue. Also Samsung's extreme power saving mode is supposed to be awesome (24 hours) at 10% battery should be enough time to get to a charger.
 
Okay, maybe this is one of those RARE occasions where I misunderstood something. Probably a rumor anyway. It only figures that the battery would be a large as possible. So maybe not 3800, but we'll find out in 2 weeks :)
 
My guess is the battery life will at least be the same as the Note 3 due to the S5 Qhd battery results- if using the same new tech as the S5, which makes cost sense that it would.

This is the weak spot of the G3. Older 1080p designed tech pushing Qhd.


Added: 3800 mah battery would be nice.
 
How long does the s5 battery last if you leave it in extreme power saving mode from a full battery? Someone must have tried this already. Have you guys read or seen any results of this?
 
This is the first time I heard of 5.9 in screen n this big battery.

I dont know what to believe now.
 
I don't think we are going to get a 5.9" screen. I think that "mock up" of the specs and size of the N4 will not be what we get at the end of the day. I think we pretty much know the size and specs at this point. I do hope for a bigger battery considering the display is likely to chew up more juice than what the N3 has for a display. Beyond that, I think the specs we are hearing in the other thread (5.7" display, small bevels, OIS, etc) will be what we get come mid September.
 
5.7" is about too big, so 5.9" would push the Note into more a niche consumer group (less sales). Please appreciate that the .2" gets more size significant, the bigger the device, so not a proportional relationship.

I am close to talking myself into the Note 3, but will wait to see what the Note 4 brings to warrant a few hundred more dollars. The Note 3 is $600 new now at Verizon.

If a 64GB for $700, THAT would sway me ;) Yeah, like that is happening.
 
I HIGHLY doubt that a 64GB Note 4 (if it's even available), released brand new and full retail, will be only $700. Especially on Big Red. My guess is more upwards of $800-850.

And it had better be well worth it, or I might just wait for the Note 5... and that's a big "IF" in itself. IF there would be a Note 5.

There are a lot of Note competitors suddenly hitting the market, and Samsung pretty much missed earnings estimates (by a lot) with the sale of the GS5. They are depending on the Note 4 to sell like water in the desert to make up the loss. Good for us: they're trying to throw everything but the kitchen sink into it.

But if they can't do it right, or (IMO foolishly) make the Note 4 just an incremental update to the Note 3, there might not BE a Note 5.

LG's G3 Stylus looks great: but will it have all the stuff I've grown accustomed to and more? China has their own version of the Note. Samsung HAS to get this one right. And I really hope they do.

We'll see next week! :)
 
the g3 stylus isn't taking away note sales any more than honda civics take sales away from Ferraris

I can see the big iPhone making a dent but I think the note line will be fine.
 
The G3 stylus doesn't have spec even remotely close to Note 3. It doesn't have proper spec to be Note 4 competitor at all. I don't quite get LG here. If they threw in 805 chip, bigger battery and Wacom stylus into G3, it would be very formidable competition for Note 4.
