Root ? about the droid 2 global.....

My buddy has a global....rooted stock and tonight we.tried.to.flash the apex 1.4.1.....ended up having to flash the phone...got it back up and running and reflashed apex 1.4.1...... installed fine....but would not get a signal.... under settings the baseband said " unknown baseband"...... anyone know of anything like this? I put apex 1.4.1 on smothers buddies Droid 2 w no issues whatever.....it is also on my X.....thanks for the help guys

You can't use D2 ROMs on a D2G, they're different hardware. You're lucky you didn't end up with a brick and owe your buddy a new $500 phone...

The only D2G rom available is Fission, from team DeFuse, and its latest update is about 2 months behind the promised release date.

You can flash D2 ROMs and then use a tool called the D2G ROMer from Team Get R Done over at droidforums. The ROMs work, but the sensors on the phone (accelerometer, auto brightness, etc) don't.
 
Yeah....luckily, since these phones are virtually unbrickable I wasn't really worried about that.... It was actually my best friend trying to rom his cousins d2g.....and when he called me he was bootlooping..... and then he couldn't get the phone to go into recovery.....so I was basically walking him through all the flashing process over the phone.....he is thankful for rsd lite and sbf files!
 
FWIW, I was able to root my wife's D2G with Z4 and used the bootstrap file for an X, this was totally successful and now looking for a ROM to get rid of bloatware.. Am I also to believe there is only one ROM available for this device? Did I read incorrectly? If there are more available, please let me know, she is having a HUGE issue with battery life.
 
If she's having issues with battery life, it's because a setting or an app somewhere is doing bad things. Click my username and find all the threads I've started, I have a good writeup on how to get 2 or 3 days out of a D2G with an extended battery, or at least a full day with the stock battery.

Also, yes, there is only one ROM, Fission by team Defuse, and it hasn't received an update in months, despite the Dev promising releases every few weeks via twitter post.

You can use D2 ROMs, with the ROMer tool, but your sensors won't work.
