Accessing File System from Windows?

Hi,

Sorry if this is a stupid question. The Nexus 7 is my first Android device and something has got me a little stumped:

I am using ES File Explorer to access the file system on my Nexus 7 (not rooted, stock JB). If I connect my Nexus 7 to Windows Vista and create a new directory in Windows Explorer I can see the directory in ES File Explorer however if I create the directory in ES File Explorer I can't then see it in Windows Explorer. Why is this....?

I have also noticed that files I have deleted from /sdcard/Download (deleted from within Android) are sometimes still visible in Windows Explorer.

Am I missing something?

I notice the same thing. Something is not synced properly. Usually if I create the folder in windows I'll see it in the N7 and windows. But if I create the folder using say Astro, I won't see it in windows.

Thanks val88. Glad it's not just me.

What I don't understand is why there's any kind of syncing to be done. Why isn't the device mounting as a mass storage device? Is this a driver issue? Or a permissions problem?

Anyone else got any ideas...?

Permission. You should play with windows permission settings.

In the old days connecting a USB cable would mount the SDCard as a USB drive visible from Windows. The problem is that this denies Android access to the SDCard because the SDCard has to be unmounted as an Android device first. To get round this ICS and later use MTP to get access to the SDCard. I'd guess this is where you're getting synching problems.

It's a shame you can't get Jelly Bean to just use the old behaviour. I never found any problems mounting the SDCard and it's a lot simpler than MTP.

Not a syncing problem, just the way the file system mounts from the tablet to the computer when plugging it in via USB. It's permissions on the Android side, not the Windows side if I'm not mistaken.
