Accessing network folders

Hi all,

I'm about to buy an Android phone and / or tablet.
What I want to ask is :

I have an external hard drive which I access over Wireless network.
I can do that in Windows via driver or in Linux simply via mounting the drive (the OS on HD is Linux based; WD MyBook).

After buying an Android device (it will be ICS), is there a way of mounting the ext. HD folder and accessing the files (movies, mp3, etc.) ?

I currently own an Omnia 2, on which I've installed Android 2.2. It works a little slow, so I can't use it for daily use, but I want to try at least the mounting, if possible.

On my Omnia in Windows Mobile, I can actually browse other folders over the network via Resco Explorer, say my laptop, but only Windows drives, it doesn't support other file systems.

In short, what I want to do is, mounting the network drive and playing movies and mp3 files by clicking them (without copying them to the device).

Your valuable advice is needed.
Thanks in advance.
