Accessing USB thumb drives on Galaxy 10.1 - drive appears empty

I have a Samsung Galaxy 10.1 Model GT-P7510 upgraded to Honeycomb 3.1, with the official new USB adapter, model EPL-1PL0BEGSTA, part GH69-13448A. It recognizes mice and keyboards, but not cameras and USB thumb drives. I have several thumb drives with various file systems, including mostly FAT32 (which should work). All of them incorrectly appear empty.

I am having a similar problem on a Motorola Xoom. Keyboards work fine, and I can plug in a USB drive and it seems to access it, but I can't find it in the file system.

When you say they appear empty, how did you manage to scan what was on them? Can you tell me where it gets mounted? /mnt/???? ?
