Accidentally put radio band to USA

Quite frankly the last phone saw that had a USA band setting was a Motorola flip-phone I had in 1999, which switched it between US cellular bands and rest of the world cellular bands. All phones I've seen and had since then have been automatic.
How do you know you put it USA band mode, was there a setting you went to, are you not getting service, where are you in the world, who's you carrier?
