Accuweather notification color question

I use the Accuweather widget and it provides the temperature at the upper left of my screen in the notification area.
Sometimes the temperature is listed in white (on the bar's dark background) and sometimes it is red?
I thought that perhaps the red means that there is precipitation but I've seen it that way when no rain or snow is falling.
Can anyone tell me what the different colors are suppose to connote?

Existence of a weather alert in the area you have it set to.
