Activate S3 While Roaming?

I will be in a non verizon area when i get my S3. Will it just work out of the box, or do i have to drive a hundred miles to activate it? Thanks!

I am asking because i know with 3g phones you have to dial 228 when on the verizon networrk. I was reading that 4lte phones come programmed and you are not supposed to dial 228 since it auto updates...im hoping it will just work ootb. Nearest verizon network is 100 miles away.

This is my experience and my experience only...

You do have to be in Verizon's network to activate everything...

I've tried and it will activate everything but data...

And...I done the activation over the phone with a rep...

Again...just MY experience...
