Activating new phone

Endlyssly

Newbie
I apologize if this has already been discussed or if it's obvious, I just want to make sure.

I share a contract with another person, and she just renewed it. I was eligible for a half upgrade this month, but not anymore because of this. So I'm planning on saving up and just buying a new phone full price. Now, when buying just a phone, can I activate it myself and be good? In the past I've had to re-activate an old phone because the current one was dying, so I think I just do the same sort of thing, right?

Thanks in advance!

What do you mean you "share a contract"? You mean you are on a family plan? And what do you mean "she renewed your contract"? The lines should be separate. It would really help if you told us what carrier too.

And I'm not sure what you mean by "can I activate it myself and be good"? Unless she has control over your line, you should be able to activate. If not, just leave and get your own line.

Yes, I'm on a family plan. She is the primary so at the moment, she has control over my account. A few weeks ago, her phone broke, so she got a new one, which renewed the two-year contract. What I mean by can I activate the new phone myself, I'm asking if I can make it work for my number by myself without having to get a phone through my carrier, which is Verizon.

As long as the phone has a good ESN and is tagged with Verizon, you should be fine. You will need to do it over the phone or go into a VZW store I believe.
