Apps Activity won't install and run from SDK

Trying to comile the HelloAndroid example from here: Hello, World | Android Developers

It says it should install and run automatically when run, but for me, it doesn't. The emulator boots up to a lock screen and stays there. Nothing happens when you unlock it. It doesn't appear in the applications drawer.

"Launch default activity" is set in the run configurations dialog.

Anything else I can check?

I have also tried manually setting my activity to launch in the run configuration dialog but that doesn't launch anything either.

Well, I fixed it by following the advice here: Troubleshooting | Android Developers

While the emulator was running, I ran the command:

adb kill-server

and then it said to run another command to restart the server so I did

adb devices

It then said the ADB server was out of date, killed it and restarted it. The emulator appeared in the adb devices list. It also appeared in DDMS. Re-ran the activity without closing the emulator and it loaded. Hurrah!
