Adblocking discussion?

*whew* :) now that I'm past that.

I came from apple so i never saw ads or very few from any app I downloaded.

I'm noticing alot, and I mean alot of ads and even pop ups? Maybe. I'm certainly not use to that.

I am not rooted. I'm on an Asian variant of the LG G6. I don't think a root is available.

And I'm currently trying adguard for 7 days .

Thank you :)

Thanks. Does adguard block ads within the apps? Or when I'm searching in the google store?

Sometimes I'm not even sure where to install a specific app because there is a whole bunch of ads and x etc, download buttons etc.

Thank u

P.S so far adguard android app seems ok. A few more days on the trial.

Is that the correct app as they seem to have many. Which one should I subscribe to when my trial ends?

You can also try Free Adblocker Browser. It doesn't block ads within apps, but you will not see them while browsing. I even open Youtube in the browser to see no ads. And it's free.

This app seems rather contradictory to me....

Does it block the ads that it contains?

Also it seems to have just about every permission there is, like basically giving it the keys to the kingdom.

This app has access to:

Holy permissions Batman!
I used AdAway for years which is great if you're rooted and will remove ads in apps via host-file redirection. Recently I updated my phone and no longer have root, I've since found Blokada which is an open-source VPN with built-in ad blacklisting. It works as well as AdAway did, it's lightweight and uses minimal resources and doesn't have unnecessary permissions. It's not available on the Play store though, I got it on F-Droid (one of the few safe 3rd-party app sites with only open-source apps). I highly recommend it for anyone looking for an effective ad-blocker on a non-rooted device.
I did also try BlockThis a while ago but it appears to be broken and no longer supported.

Block This still works (I'm using it with 8.1), but some WiFi networks block some VPNs, which can cause problems for any VPN-baaed ad filter. And as different apps use different VPNs you may find that on a particular network some work and some don't (and if they don't you get cut off until you turn it off).
