Add a Phone for Kid? Help?

Help! My sister's family has a Share Everything plan with 2 smartphones. They want to add a 3rd line for their kid using a dumbphone with no data.

Verizon is saying this addition is $30 a month? That's seems crazy expensive.

Our family is on old plans and ours was only $9.99.

Help!

Do they have the phone already or they looking to get a new phone . Tell them new is better all they should need is a FLIP phone and what options they want .

It is crazy expensive. That, unfortunately, is the price to add a dumb phone to the SE plans though.
It may be a better option to do a pre-pay for him/her. You can get a year of basic service on a TracFone with 1500 minutes for $200, that's about $17 a month (plus the initial cost of the phone). Do you have any idea how much the phone will actually be used? Emergency only, lots of texts?

The difference between their $30 per month and your $9.99 per month is that theirs is unlimited minutes and texts.

Just for emergencies. For a 10 year old. No texting. Does Verizon offer anything at the $10 a month price point for their plan?

Can you, or are you willing to, add him to your family plan for $9.99/month?
As far as I know it would be that, the $30 SE or their pre-pay which is not really a bargain.
Verizon is not so good with a bargain these days...

Look into pageplus. You can buy a droid x, x2 incredible, inc2, galaxy fascinate etc for $50-100. Pagpeplus has plans as low as $12/month.

I agree with this suggestion if it can really be accomplished. Caveats are the phone reception in your area with whatever carrier they use and if there is up front. registering your phone or purchase requirements that make it more spread out over the long term.

Be careful of all hidden and regular yet undisclosed fees no matter where your land.

And remember that ebay can provide a ready phone to be added at small cost. There are tons of good regular and pre-pay phones available that can be made pre-pay for small or no dollars. All you need is a basic phone with a good EIN.

I've been on pageplus for several years now, there are no other fees. My plan is $29.99 a month period. No tax or other fees, they use the Verizon network I've never had any reception issues no matter where I am. The beauty of prepaid is that you can't go over your minutes, text or data. When you've used up your prepaid amount your cut off till you buy some more or your plan reups at the end of your 30 days. One of my family members learned this the hard way twice so far. :-)
