adding hotmail account!!!!

Hello and welcome to Android Forums! 
I think they are talking about the account that the phone is registered to. In order to use Google services like gmail, calendar, maps, etc. it must be registered to a gmail account. But there's no reason why you can't add your hotmail account. We have many users who use hotmail, yahoo, facebook, and multiple enterprise and pop3 mail accounts on the same device.

Lunatic forgot to mention Imap accounts as well, jeesh promote a guy and he starts forgetting things.
All kidding aside you should have no issues as long as you first set up your Gmail account on the phone and add Hotmail as an additional account as Lunatic said. I don't think there is a limit on the number of accounts you can have.
