Help adding my own ringtone

Hi, I'm trying to figure out how to select a ringtone from my own songs, not the ringtones provided. With most phones, one has to select the song as your ringtone, then it adds it to the list of ringtones to later choose from. With this phone, there's no option to add the songs in my music player. Is there another way to do this? I need to be able 5o choose my own ringtones, as well as assign my own songs for individual contacts.

When I was helping out as a Guide before, I put together a decent FAQ for the original Photon that I'm sure might guide you through some new things on Android that you might not have experienced with your past phones.

In that FAQ thread, there's a link for setting up your microSD card, so that your ringtones/alerts can be identified for every future Android phone you might get. It's a very simple step-by-step process that might initially take some time to go through, but once you've set it up once, you'll never have to set it up ever again (just transfer the folders).

Now, if you don't have a microSD card and are only using the internal storage, the process is very similar, except you'll only be putting the files on the internal storage instead.

Yeah, ever since Ringdroid left behind permanent issues on my Intercept, I've learned DIY is the way to go and avoid ringer apps at all costs.

On occasion I've used the app called Zedge for new ringtones. You can search for it in the Google Play store. It's free.

This post will show you the default/expected folder structure to have on your SD card. Any compatible sound file can just be copied into one of these folders and will show up under the appropriate list when you go to select ringers or notifications.

If you want to have the option to use the same sound as both a notification and a ring, I believe you have to copy the file into both, but I'm not positive on that.

Also, I believe the allowed audio formats include ogg and mp3. Any corrections are welcome. My thing is, why bloat with further apps something you can do on your own?

I much prefer to edit my own ringers from PC on something like Audacity (free) so you can make it just the way you want it, add fades, or make it loop properly (or as properlyish as your phone will let you).
