Adding two lines

My wife and I currently have Razr's and have been grandfathered into the $30 unlimited data plans, with $5 for 250 txt msgs per month. Recently, we've decided that we want to add her parents to our line for $10/line.

Is it really that simple? They don't need smart phones, they don't even text! "Just the basics, please" is their motto. I'm fairly certain we wouldn't even have to change our plan for minutes (we're at 1400/mo shared, which we don't even use fully). Oh, and BTW, my lines are not up for renewal until 2014. The in-laws are pretty close to the end of their current contract on ATT.

So 2 questions:
1 - would our bill really only increase by $20/mo? (2 lines @ $10/ea)
2 - would adding a line(s) jeopardize our unlimited data plan?

Thanks for the help!

Hello Eusibius2.

The type of device the new lines bring onto the account are all important. If they are categorized as smartphones, there will be a "this phone requires a data plan" type of issue. If not, if the devices are "dumb phones" (:D) then no problem; you'll see nothing other than the connection fee and the additional 20 bux per month on your statement.

They are getting dumb phones, no doubt about that. What's the connection fee? I don't remember one of those...

There is a $35 set up fee, they may waive it though...sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.
My 'dumb' phone lines are $14 and change a month with fees and taxes.
And triple check with CS about your data, it should stay unlimited but I'd be wary at best...

Like clementine said, there will be some additional taxes and small fees associated with the addition of two additional lines. Also, your current unlimited data on your smartphones should not be affected at all as you are not changing your smartphones at all.

But as Clenentine said, check with the service rep in the store when you get the phones for her parents. If you go to a corp store to make the change, which I reccomend because you can test the new phones before you walk out of the store to make sure they are working, and when you look at the receipt, it should show your plan and associated costs, like your data plan and it should show them as unlimited plans.

If for some reason you can't get to a corp store, then you have to rely on the person you're talking to regarding plans, costs and fees. Which should be no problem because Verizon make thousands on online and phones transactions every day with no problems, but at a corp store you can physicly make sure everything works the way it's supposed to before walking out of the store.

Best of luck,
