how do i turn on the speaker

In what application?
If you mean in a phone call, the precise interface depends on the software you are running (version and manufacturer), but if you have the keypad visible during a call it should be there somewhere, either a speakerphone icon or a tools/settings button which will give you access to it.
Other apps will generally play through the speaker unless headphones are plugged in or it is connected to an external speaker via bluetooth. So if it isn't the speakerphone you are asking about, please post again with more details of the problem.
