Help ads are ruining my phone experience

Desikratis

Lurker
I have had ads pop up before when i am playing a game on my phone but now i get a couple of ads per minute even whilst i'm texting people. always the same lot of ads even when i click no thanks.
I have some ad blocking apps on my phone but none seem to work.

There a way to ensure they do not appear or once a day an not 3 times in a minute

What ad blocker have you tried? Admittedly the most effective require root, but someone may still have suggestions.

Otherwise the best solution will be to identify which app is responsible for the ads. As a starting point what apps did you install or update shortly before this started? Have you been installing apps from sources other than the Play Store (the most extreme adware technologies were banned from the Play Store a couple of years back)? Have you tried clearing browser caches? What model phone do you have (some Chinese phones have adware built in)?

You could try looking at applying permissions to see whether any have permissions which might help them do this. An app called Addons Detector is useful for that.

There may be an element of trial and error in identifying the source I'm afraid.

I have been using AdGuard with a lot of success.
It is a firewall ad blocker so it will stop all adverts before they reach the apps or browsers.

It is a subscription product, but affordable, and for me, a necessity to preserve my sanity.

* Adguard for Android Overview - the world's most advanced ad blocker

It stops the adverts that are embedded inside an app, if that app can't find "home base", it can't display an advert.

There is only one major caveat with it.
When it is "enabled", MMS will NOT work.
easy fix, just disable AdGuard when you need MMS

I typically leave it off until I need it, ie, want to view Facebook or read stuff on the net.

I'd go so far as to say that is the best solution. When I had an app do this to me not too long ago I was beyond pissed. I ended up doing a factory reset and just not installing the last three apps I had downloaded. If a developer is that hard up that they ruin your phone experience for some revenue they deserve to be ignored. Ads within their apps or games I have no problems with but extending that all across your phone without even warning you seems unethical to me.

I agree I am absolutely sick of the intrusive ads. Especially when most of the ads are for things you've already searched for AND purchased!

Thanks for the replies

Got a samsung s7, the blocking apps i had were adblock fast and adblock plus but they didnt work.
I installed Addons Detector and started deleting apps that i downloaded in recent months, still had a few. Took Adguard and been ad free for the last 2 days. Makes a change from 2-3 ads a minute.

I didnt mind the 2 ads a day I previously got but the constant spam and the ads with sound or on a timer before you could click away did my head in.

Thanks again for the help ;)
