Ads in notification bar, won't go away?

Apparently I've installed an app that keeps pushing ads to my notification bar, several times a day. They all say, "opt out at so-and-so" but I can never see the entire notification. I have no idea what app is causing it, and clicking on the ad doesn't indicate where it's coming from either.

Anyone have any ideas that don't involve uninstalling apps? Perhaps a way to see the entire notification? The ads are fairly spaced out and seemingly random, it would be a long process if I tried uninstalling apps one by one.

Just a quick peek at your above list and not doing any research on the subject, I would guess Zynga Poker, sorry, I don't have time at the moment to search

After reading this Zynga - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (Controversies and Scam ads ) I would uninstall it, sounds like a slimball company to me, but, that is just my opinion

I have been looking for a good solid poker game for a while now, and a friend suggested Zynga Poker.
When I first opened this app it immediately force closed, and then in my status bar there was a notice about "buying chips for zynga poker" even though the app was closed. I tried opening it a few more times with the same results and then uninstalled. I really dislike apps that put SPAM on your phone.
 
I am receiving these pushed ads too, only mine seem to be from Badoo. I dont have the social ap, Badoo , installed, nor have I ever. I dont even have an account with them, I dont beleive. Googling hasnt helped, saw your dilemna and was hoping for suggestions on ridding myself of this spam. Thanks
 
The best way to get rid of the spam or not get any at all, is to watch what & where you download your apps from, and do a search on the app itself to see who is having problems with that app, whether it be spam, adds, not working with a certain phone model, etc ...

To many people use the windows terminology and just click and download

Something I myself would stay clear of, but, each to his/her own Badoo - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Web of trust, the community-based website reputation ratings tool rated the site as trustworthy but with a risk of spam and phishing

That's sound advice and so true. Funny thing, all my apps has been downloaded from the Android Market, with the exception of my ROM [ROM][Beta][FINAL] CM7 Android For Triumph [Tickerguy Edition, the Gapps, and the recovery. And I dont think its those
 
you could also use an app like gemini app manager to freeze parts of bad apps. It tells you the apps that have ad functions built in.

The other thing that might work well is using Droidwall. You can set which apps can access the data service. You would be surprised how often seemingly safe apps are calling home to the app creator or the ad service that the app creator added to the app. Back when the app Color was the talk of the town it came out that certain apps like Color could, and would, randomly turn on the microphone and/or camera on the phones and send that data back to the company.
 
It wasn't Zynga Poker, uninstalled it yesterday and I got another ad today. I also used gemini app manager to uninstall a few live wallpapers that showed having ads built in.
Pretty much all of my apps are from the market, with the exception of the google apps that came with CM7. This only started recently though, so it has to be something I've installed in the past week or two.
 
I don't have any programs installed that push ads - most of mine are pay for. I also don't game.

That said - I received one of those sleazy messages from Best Buy AS A TEXT.
BB does not have phone number as usually required if you use a check. (The one on record is no longer in use.)I used a credit card and bought 2 items about 2 weeks before the spam text.

I can think of 3 scenarios:

1. BB somehow got your phone number from the CC company

2. BB is using some kind of predictive dialer

3. It isn't BB at all, but a spoofing phish.

Did you go to Best Buy at all?
 
It's not Best Buy, just that particular ad mentioned Best Buy. They're just generic apps about random stuff, like "Click to win an iPad!" or something. It's not through text, so it must be an app that's causing it. I also just got another ad in my notifications, so the live wallpapers I uninstalled weren't the problem.
 
I too had a mystery spam from Badoo. It was a day or so after I had downloaded a bunch of LIVE WALLPAPERS (free ones) to try.

I started uninstalling them and during that process, I noticed something... one of them was running without being the current wallpaper and without having run it myself during the current boot.

This indicated to me it was also running as a service. Anyway, I would love to tell which one it was, but as quickly as I was going through the process, it became clear... that I had forgotten.

But I thought my comments would help anyway... look for a program that's running on bootup that YOU didn't run. Mine turned out to be a live wallpaper. Hopefully no more spams from Badoo!
 
I ran addon detector and It said Bible App and Mp3 Music Downloads App. My wife has the Bible app and does not get them, so I uninstalled the Mp3 Music Downloads app. I guess time will only tell if that got rid of the annoying notifications. Thanks for the advice and I will let you know if it worked or not!
 
I too had the Mp3 Music Downloads App and ran the Addons Detector. So far, no ads! Thanks adeathnote for the tip!
 
Just installed Addon Detector and found no push adds but did find some apps with ads that I already knew about and don't mind.

This app has given me some piece of mind and I will run it anytime I add a new app to my Rezound.
 
Thanks so much for Addons detector! For me, it was Pinterest.
Verizon also told me in google play, there is Google AdMob Ads that is a default setting so I went into google play, apps, hit the menu key, settings, other and turned that off too.

Just to say thanks for the advice given in this thread.

I too was being constantly bugged by spam notifications about poker, local-singles, etc.

I installed the 'Addon Detector' app (FYI, I found it on the Google Play store), and enabled the notification monitor, which revealed that the spam was coming from the 'London Tube Map' app (which I'd installed the first day I got the phone, and forgotten about!) I uninstalled it, and haven't had a spam notification since :)
