Ad's

So all of a sudden a couple of weeks ago my Phoenix 3 started having an issue where I'm getting ad's very often, I turn on the screen and a ad plays, I open a app and a ad plays I have my phone sitting there charging over while I sleep and a ad starts out of nowhere and wakes me up. Does anybody know what could cause this and how to stop it?

Ads while charging, possibly it's Peel Smart Remote. Does it also say things like 'Good morning' etc?
No it's just app ad's and video ad's. What is peel smart remote? I got a few anti spyware, anti malware and anti virus programs but they didn't find anything.

What's causing it is an app you may have installed a few weeks ago then deleted. Some unscrupulous developers incorporate malware into their free software that can install other apps without you even noticing.

What I do in a situation like this is Hard Reset and reinstall everything but the last three apps I downloaded. A bit draconian but it has always worked for me.

Another possibility is that an update to one of your apps has started this. Basically anything you installed or updated shortly before this started is a suspect. The "Peel Smart Remote" thing Mike mentioned was one example of that: an app that had been around for years became an aggressive ad-pusher after an update. If you've anything from DU, Go, CM, ES those might also be possibles. With really aggressive adware stuff installed from outside the Play Store is more likely, but Play Store apps can't be assumed to be free of it.

Actual malware is unlikely from the Play Store (though that statement varies with country - at least a year or two back the Russian Play Store was a lot less safe than the UK one). Being released with Android 6 reduces the risk of a rootkit malware at least (which would not be fixable with a factory reset), since those generally rely on vulnerabilities of earlier Android versions.

Have a look at NoRoot Firewall at the PS.

You can allow or deny web accesses to your phone on an app by app basis. This will allow you to determine which app(s) are the cuprit(s).

Once you find the culprit app(s), you can then further refine allowing/denying web accesses by the app(s) on a URL by URL basis. This will allow you to isolate which URL is sending the unwanted ads.

A pretty cool little app which I use the hell out of.
