Help Advice from existing Milestone 2 owners please!

Hi all...

I have been seriously considering the Milestone 2 as my first Android device. I did however just want to ask a couple of questions from existing owners / users if I may:-

(1). My current Samsung Wave (ahem...) allows slick and pleasurable viewing of movies that I've converted (MP4's, etc) - does the Milestone 2 play large video files with ease?

(2). The dreaded Motoblur; can I just disable this "evil" addition?

Many thanks for your help!

:)

For sure. Plus you will not have to even convert them. Just use .avi files or whatever format you have your movies in and use RockPlayer, VPlayer or whatever player you like from the Market to play them.

(2). The dreaded Motoblur; can I just disable this "evil" addition?

You can do 3 things:
1. Not sign up for it, remove all widgets from it and use a different launcher like Launcher Pro, ADW etc. Blur Home will still try to run in the background from time to time, but that is nothing to worry about.

2. Use Titanium Backup and Freeze Blur Home so that it cannot run anymore.

3. Use Root Explorer and change permision settings for Blur Home in \system\app and that will prevent it from running too.

For the two last points you will have to root the phone though.

Many thanks for your help!

You're welcome. Hope that helps.

Thanks!

I've been struggling this week whether to go for the Nexus S, Galaxy S or the MS2. This looks to have helped!

SW.

:D

Unless you need a physical keyboard go for Nexus S.
Hi, this was something I was seriously considering after going into Bestbuy for a look. Form factor is great. It is a ninja's phone. But lack of HD video did put me off a little...

As a Milestone owner, I take it this is something you would do then???

If I did not need physical keyboard I would get Nexus S as it has a much better screen.

The ofrm factor of the Milestone is the best qwerty phone you can get ATM and I would not switch any time soon unless for something with 4.3" AMOLED screen.

P.S. Galaxy S is basically the same as Nexus S and has 720p video recording.

One of the other options I considered was opting for a SGS with a 16 gb SD card onboard, which coupled with the HD recording ability and Froyo, would perhaps put it on par with the Nexus S? There is just something about the design of the M2 that keeps bringing me back to wanting one! :)

PS: Does your M2 have android smileys when you text message?

Have not checked smileys, do not know.

Milestone and Milestone 2 are great designs and SGS does not compare to MS2 in built quality. A Friend has an SGS and it is overly plasticky.

The screen is gorgeous though.

I know, the screen quality of the SAMOLEDs is orgasmic. I did have a 16gb SGS when they were first released, but ended up sending it back due to issues re stuck pixels (pixel issues on such a high spec screen are not tolerated IMO; you wouldn't tolerate pin dents on a brand new Ferrari!). From there I stepped (down?) to a Samsung Wave, which runs the same spec screen. Gorgeous. I think I may even have a "fluke" handset because the screen on my wave (on 50% brightness) outshines even those I know with SGS's and other waves. It is stunning. But I digress...

I'll lay it on the table, this is my dilemma: I want an Android set, but don't want to sacrifice too much camera / vid quality. I don't feel I could go back to the SGS as it feels like a step back if you will. Besides, my other half has one. The ribbing would be unbearable.

Which leaves the MS2 and the Nexus S. I LOVE the aesthetics of the latter. If the Grim Reaper were to carry a handset, I reckon it would be the S. But, to me it lacks the polished interface. This, I suppose is what hardcore Android is about though, but not sure if I could stomach this level of Android intensity.

I had an SGS, I hated it, buggy as hell.

MS2 is far superior, would never buy another Samsung again. Don't trust them not to have screwed up the device drivers on the Nexus S even with google's help.
