Help Advice (Insurance Out of Stock)

Ok. Wife decided to see if the RAZR could take a flight of 10 concrete stairs. Stairs one, RAZR zero.

We have the best insurance that could be purchased at VZW. ($6.99/month)

We filed the claim and get a response from Asurion stating, "Unfortunately, your device is not currently in stock. We will be happy to place your device on back order and reserve it for you whenever it's available."

Now what good is paying for insurance if they can't replace a phone when it's broken?

Has anyone had any similar issues or resolutions?

I'd be upset if they told me that. Perhaps see if they are willing to replaced it worth another device (or perhaps loan you a device until they have the razr back in stock).

Wow. That (to me) is completely unacceptable. I would not stop harassing then until I had a phone in my possession.

If your device is not available they are supposed to offer a comparable replacement according to Verizon. I had a similar problem last year when Assurion didn't have the Droid 2 in stock. One call to Verizon and they over nighted me a brand new Droid 2.

Total BS, get someone else on the phone or go to the bricks and mortar store and demand a replacement phone. Don,t leave until you get one then mention the better business bureau complaint you will be filing.

Yeah. I'll probably be making a road trip this afternoon.

Keep asking. THey are supposed to either replace it for a refurbished one of the same model or another comparable model.

Where's the Star Trek facepalm when you need it! Is this really how people get their kicks? What a sad state of affairs!

I made the comment when she first got it that when I held it I always felt like I was going to drop it. Due to it being so slim.

She made a motion to some other people to follow her down the stairs and when she did..........SLIP!!!! She said that everyone gasped at the same time. They knew how much she loved that phone.

Such is life and that is why we purchased insurance. But apparently the insurance company didn't get the memo that they were an insurance company.

Absolutely forward Asurian's response to Verizon. Asurian is on contract with Verizon to provide insurance... and has the responsibility to provide you a suitable replacement for your injured Razr. If Asurian isn't doing their job, then Verizon needs to know about it. At that point Verizon "should" step in and replace the phone for you...

Verizon isn't responsible for Asurion's practices and inventory. Yes they take payment for the monthly premium, but that is it. Whining to Verizon will get you an apology at most, and maybe not even that.

With a handful of Razr devices now, ask for the new version. They're not saying you're S.O.L.- they're saying your particular model is out of stock. Call Asurion 888-881-2622 and talk to someone. There should be no reason they can't get you a comparable model.

Someone mentioned the Better Business Bureau. Forget them, they're totally worthless. They side with companies in most disputes. I've tried them twice with complaints, both a waste of time and they were reasonable complaints. Don't bother with them and do NOT trust a company even if it has the BBB little symbol on their site, literature, whatever. You're better off using your gut instinct than the BBB.....worthless organization.

So I called Asurion back and asked to speak to a supervisor about my problem. I explained to them that I pay a premium every month so that I can have a replacement phone if something should happen. They said they are back ordered for 7 days. I told them that was unacceptable that I needed a phone shipped to me next day.

Here's the great part. She said that they can give me a comparable model and offered me a Bionic. I about crapped my pants. I asked if she was serious. She said that it was a comparable model. I then asked her who's definition of comparable was she using.

What a load of crap ASSurion is.

I called my local VZW and spoke to the manager there. He is going to contact their rep for Asurion today and see if they can take my deductible payment and then get me a new phone from the store. Hopefully that works out.

I thought everyone knew that Asurion is total garbage. Squaretrade is the best warranty money can buy. They send you cash, not a comparable refurbished phone.

This thread makes me want to cancel my insurance.

I'm sure for every story like mine there is a good experience as well.

The question is, do you want to take that chance and be in the minority like me?

I can tell you one thing for sure. The view from down here sucks!!!!

I may look at Squaretrade after I get a new phone.

Quick aside so you all don't think Sportster is a tin foil wearing whack job. He is 100% right, especially now that business can pay BBB for better ratings. They don't arbitrate or do anything useful, they essentially serve as a message board for you and the business to bitch at each other. Ultimately, they will close the complaint if the business tells them it has been satisfactorily resolved. Complete joke.

As for the OP, I can't imagine how pissed I'd be. The Bionic is comparable? Maybe in basic functionality, but good golly the buck stops there!

!

The BBB is a shell of what they were, but I can tell you that it is a pain for the companies to have to respond to these things. (yes they have to respond). I had a big issue with Best Buy a couple years ago and filed one, they responded, called, fixed the problem and sent a $75 gift card for the problems. The BBB was very involved.

Good luck, Assurion does suck:cool:

not that I'm an advocate for asurion, but the couple of times I've had to make a claim there were no problems.

I've mentioned this before (since we are on the topic of insurance) ...

I have my phone (Razr) listed specifically on my homeowners policy as a rider. Value: $650. Cost: about $18 per YEAR. Covers theft, breakages, water damage, etc. No deductible whatsoever. Just like comprehensive coverage on a car.

I dropped a previous phone (droid eris) in my garage - shattered the glass. Went to Best Buy, replaced it with a brand new (out of contract price) phone for $500. I had a check from my insurance company for $500 within 7 days.

The downside is shelling out $500 cash / credit on the spot - which might be tough to swallow for some people. If you can swing that, and get your money back within a couple of weeks, it's a GREAT deal.

My insurance company quoted me $18/yr. up to $5,000 claim with a $50 deductible.

Hell of a lot better than $84/yr. with $100 deductible.

As soon as this gets straightened out I will be canceling ASSurion.

Update:

Just wanted to give everyone an update and possibly help someone that finds themselves in the same situation.

I called Asurion again and told them I wanted an emergency in-store replacement. They informed me that a manager from that store needed to be on the phone to authorize it from their end.

I called the local store and spoke to the manager, who I had already spoken to several times and he was extremely helpful. He said he would call Asurion and call me back.

10 minutes later he called me and told me to come up and get my phone.

I hope that my headache and frustration can help assist someone else in avoiding all the trouble I went through.

Thanx for the heads up.
