AFC Championship

One of the mods is a huge Pat fan... you are walking on eggshells lol. Kidding naturally. Everyone has their favorites as well as a dislike for teams. Pats have won their fair share but they have been good for a long time. It won't bother me to see another team have a chance to represent the AFC.

hmm.... as someone who doeasn't really care about either team
(Family Guy likes the Pats, The Good Place is cheering for the Jaguars)

I've just flicked through the channels and its on Sky Sports Mix free in the UK.

So far, apart from the scoreline, history, importance etc... is it actually a good game?

OK... in that case I'll stay tuned for a bit... and give it a go.

(i've tried before.. but usually we only get the Superbowl on UK TV... and as games those have been so dull)

Well, they've finished standing around for a bit... and now are kicking off again.

and then they stopped to cut to the studio, to remind us about the verizon half time report.

and now for half time.....

Somehow, the millions the players earn, has to be covered. It's the price we pay.
Personally, I wanted the Chiefs to be the AFC champs. My second choice would have been the Steelers though they have more than a fair share of Superbowl appearances as well.

For those across the pond.. American football has to be more entertaining to the ones that follow the sport, the history, and impact players. The game itself is not likely any more entertaining than any other sport. Factor in all of the back stories and drama helps a fan to form opinions / favorites to root for or against.

Well, here's the thing.. I don't really follow rugby (league or union).... but if its on I can sit back and enjoy the game... regardless of if I have a team in.

Some sports are more exciting than others... and I can't help thinking that there seems to be an awful lot of standing around going on...

Well its going to be close.. and yes we do have some excitement here....
(and they've cut back to the studio whilst the pundits talk until play restarts again.....)

well congrats to the winners... who finished off the last 2 minutes with some very good standing around

Is American Foozball similar to rugby?

Are you guys allowed to do high tackles? I am just wondering here :)

I wonder what the differences are?

I love a violent game!

Must be something wrong with me :D

There are 2 main codes of rugby... League and Union. There are historical reasons why they split... Largely due to players wanting to be paid to play..

Anyway league is closer to American football... Downs and all.

But in both versions the big differences are... There is are no helmets, armour or protective costumes... No forward passing (forward kicking is allowed ), and the game is played almost continuously... So no long periods when everyone stands around for a bit.

High tackling isn't allowed... And in order to make the game safe without helmets only the player with the ball is allowed to be tackled.

And at the international level, South Africa are ranked the 6th best team in the world (Union ) and 35th (league )

I wouldn't rate sa as good or even 6th place. That is being too kind.

It has been... "transformed"... just another sad joke of what used to be one of the world champions and one of the best and most feared rugby nations on the planet.

That's what happens when you put black people or people of colour into occupations / sports etc they should have never been put in the first place.

Never get race involved in anything. Achieve your success through great strength, interesting character, superior athletic skills etc or merit or nothing at all.

Don't put people in any position just because they are black - it's just so stupid.

Period.

Anyway I don't want to derail or change the topic of the thread.

But those are some interesting differences. :-)

Patriots won in the last quarter. Great game!

I'd have to make a minor distinction here. The Jag's lost the game in the second half. Once they had the double digit lead, they went conservative with their eyes on the superbowl. Classic mistake against a team like the Patriots. With the pressure off the QB and not being aggressive on 3rd or 4th down, they gave the Pats the opportunity to win. And as we all know, if you give Brady an opportunity, he'll take it (and graciously thank you for it after they score.) :)

Both would have been good choices.

For entertainment, we need to get Australian Football here in the states! They start in March and end in Sept. Go Adelaide Crows!
